Senior Mixed Methods Researcher

The Personalization team makes deciding what to play next on Spotify easier and more enjoyable for every listener. We seek to understand the world of music and podcasts better than anyone else so that we can make great recommendations to every individual person and keep the world listening. 

Everyday, hundreds of millions of people all over the world use the products we build which include destinations like “Home” and “Search” as well as original playlists such as “Discover Weekly” and “Daily Mix.” We’re a team of technologists, product insight experts, designers, and product managers in Boston, New York, Stockholm, and London.

We are looking for Senior Mixed Methods Researcher to join our central insights team in our Personalization organization. In Personalization we are the people that match music with fans at the right time to create great listening experiences.

This role sits within the central research team in our Product Insights group at Personalization responsible for developing our capabilities in measuring the performance and impact of our models and features, and developing foundational research knowledge, methods and tools.

What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with the team to build lasting solutions to performance and impact measurement

  • Contribute to the development of Insights and the wider analytics and research community at Spotify

  • Mentor and coach other researcher

  • Work from our offices in London or New York 

Who you are:

  • You will have at least 5 years relevant applied experience with a degree or higher (MS/PhD) in a related research, analytics and behavioral science field

  • Technical competence in both qualitative (e.g. semi-structured interviews, diary studies, contextual inquiries, and usability) and quantitative methods (e.g. annotation studies, crowdsourcing, survey, and experiments – including conducting sampling and statistical analysis)

  • Experience in working closely and communicating with people from highly technical fields, including data science, machine learning, and data engineering

  • You are capable of taking on loosely defined problems and translating complex thinking into practical application for diverse audiences

  • You are a communicative person who values building strong relationships with colleagues and partners and enjoys mentoring and teaching others
